Details

The Head Show is the least expensive and most forgiving model in Head's park-ski collection. A soft-flexing cap-construction gives it a lighter, less edgy feel than the two top models, and its size range extends all the way down to a tween-appropriate 154 cm. With an MSRP of just $375, The Show is likely to sell in many shops for $300 or less. Head's Freeski collection of park-ready twin-tip midfats includes three models, two at 84 mm (Framewall and Caddy) and one at 79 mm (The Show). With traditional shaping (non-symmetrical, aft-of-center-waisted) they're equipped for all-mountain freeriding as well as terrain-park jibbing. All are built to withstand abuse in the park, with durable wood-core laminate constructions. The top two models feature extra rugged sidewalls (Head's extra-thick Tuffwalls in the Caddy and its Framewall construction in the flagship Framewall model), while the Show is built with a more economical and less demanding cap construction. All feature Head's PNP rocker profile, with 20 percent tip rocker, 10 percent tail rocker-for soft-snow flotation and terrain-smoothing shock absorption-and the rest of the ski's length traditionally cambered, for carvability and rebound energy. All are sold flat (no binding). Head Skis is owned by a Dutch company that also owns Tyrolia bindings. Its factory headquarters are in Kennelbach, Austria; U.S. headquarters are in Boulder, Colo. Head was founded in 1950 by American recreational skier and aeronautical engineer Howard Head, who is acknowledged as the first ski designer to successfully combine metal and plastics in ski design. -J.C.
